In search of indigenous crafts, passed down by their makers, Aurelie Tu traveled the world. But all she had to do was drive across town to realize her passion for recasting ancient handiwork in a contemporary context: She taught homeless women from Oregon's YWCA of Greater Portland to hand-assemble slivers of wool felt into vessels, table linens, wall hangings, and floor coverings, all with highly textured surfaces. Then she partnered with the design-sales consultancy Ford & Ching to market the items as CraftedSystems by Aurelie Tu.

A mod harlequin pattern distinguishes the Diamond bowl, available in two sizes, and the Teardrop vase. Six-sided pinwheels emerge from Hex Mural, a tapestry available in virtually any size. And more sinuous slivers form the rounded Audrey vessel.
